Atletico Madrid have signed Hector Herrera from Porto to replace Rodri after the Spain midfielder joined Manchester City on Wednesday.

The Rojiblancos revealed earlier on Wednesday that Rodri had moved to City for €70 million (£62.8m) and they took no time in announcing his successor.

"Atletico Madrid has reached an agreement with Hector Herrera. The midfielder is to sign a three-year contract tomorrow," the club said on their website.

Mexican international Herrera, who is 29, arrives on a free contract after his deal at Porto expired at the end of June.

The midfielder has spent the last five and a half seasons at Porto, scoring 35 goals in 245 games for the Portuguese club.

Herrera is the second Porto player to sign for Atletico in the same day after centre-back Felipe joined the Spanish side in a three-year deal earlier on Wednesday, for a fee of around €18m.
