Mesut Ozil is staring down the barrel of being left out of Arsenal's Premier League squad and may have already played his last game for the Gunners.

Ozil was not included on Arsenal's 25-man list for the Europa League group stage and he is almost certain to miss out again when the club submits its squad to the Premier League on October 20, three days after the visit to Man City.

Arsenal have 19 non-homegrown players over the age of 21 – two more than the limit allowed by both the Premier League and Uefa.

Ozil is yet to play this season after Arsenal failed to agree a pay-off with their highest-earner, who has eight months remaining on his £350,000-a-week contract.

The German, who last featured on March 7, can discuss a free transfer with other clubs in January, when he could also seal a move or be added to the domestic and European squads.

Until then, Ozil is facing the prospect of sitting out the rest of the year unless he agrees a pay-off or an unlikely move to an EFL club before the October 16 domestic deadline.

Ozil's European omission comes amid souring relations with the club, who were left embarrassed on Tuesday when the former Real Madrid player publicly offered to pay the salary of Jerry Quy, the man who plays the role of club mascot, Gunnersaurus.

It was revealed on Monday that Quy, who also works as a supporter liaison, was one of 55 people being made redundant, after 27 years at the club.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who is also yet to feature this season, was also excluded from Mikel Arteta's Europa League squad, while injured Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba, who is expected to leave on loan, have also been left out.

Tottenham also have 19 non-home-grown players and have left out Paulo Gazzaniga and Gedson Fernandes, along with Danny Rose who has been stripped of a squad number and is training away from the first team.

Rose is also set to be excluded from the Premier League squad and will have to accept a move to the Championship or face no competitive football until January.
