Ndombele transfer to Tottenham: Beating Man Utd, Juventus and City to star man shows Spurs mean business

Tottenham's summer transfer business shows they are already reaping the rewards of their impressive run to the Champions League Final.

Spurs made their first signing since January 2018 when Jack Clarke sealed a £10million move from Leeds before Tanguy Ndombele arrived from Lyon for a club-record fee.

Ndombele's arrival was particularly significant as Tottenham beat off competition from elite rivals including Manchester United, City, Juventus and Real Madrid.

Their hefty outlay on Ndombele will also encourage fans that their spending power will not be limited after moving in to a new £1billion stadium on the site of the old White Hart Lane stadium.

And Ndomebele, who is still considered a raw talent in France, is excited to get started at Spurs.

“I am very happy to be here and looking forward to playing in the new stadium,” he said.

“It’s very simple for me – Spurs are in the top four teams right now in England. I believe that my style of play is well suited to English football and Tottenham are giving me the opportunity to show that, so I am extremely happy to be here.

“For me, it’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid to play in the Premier League. Now I can make that dream come true right here. I can’t wait, I’m excited at being able to play in the Premier League and I’m hoping that we can achieve great things with the team."

The 22-year-old started his professional career at Amiens in Ligue 2, before initially joining Lyon on loan during August 2017, the move becoming permanent the following summer.

The midfielder made 96 appearances in total for the Ligue 1 side.

Ndombele was handed his senior international debut for France in October 2018, and has so far won six caps for his national side.
