Tottenham star Heung-min Son was shown a straight red card for violent conduct during Saturday's Premier League clash against Bournemouth.

With Mauricio Pochettino already missing star striker Harry Kane through injury, Son stretched Spurs' resources further when he was dismissed late in the first half at Vitality Stadium.

The South Korea international was put under pressure by a number of Bournemouth defenders in a physical tussle, and reacted violently by aiming a kick at Jefferson Lerma before pushing the Cherries midfielder to the floor.

With Lerma rolling around in seeming agony following the kick at his ankle, referee Craig Pawson - just metres from the incident - had no option but to show Son a straight red card.

As a result of the dismissal being due of violent conduct, Son now faces a three-game domestic suspension.

With Spurs facing just one more Premier League game - at home to Everton on the final day of the season - that would see the forward miss the first two games of the 2019-20 season unless the red card is overturned.

The silver lining for Spurs may be that Son is fresh for Wednesday's must-win Champions League semi-final second leg against Ajax in Amsterdam.

That match will be Son's final game of the season - unless he can inspire a comeback win to set up a Champions League Final against either Liverpool or Barcelona on June 1.
