Gareth Bale to Tottenham? Real Madrid star 'a joy to play with'... but Ben Davies plays down transfer return

Tottenham defender Ben Davies says Wales teammate Gareth Bale is a “joy to play with”, but has played down talk of a return to Spurs for the unsettled Real Madrid star.

Bale has been linked with the Madrid exit door after he was booed by sections of the Bernabeu crowd when being substituted in the 1-0 Clasico loss to Barcelona on Saturday.

The Welshman has not been certain of his place in the starting XI under Santiago Solari, with Lucas Vazquez and Vinicius Junior often operating either side of Karim Benzema, and speculation is mounting that his spell in Spain could come to an end this summer.

Ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund, Davies was asked about the prospect of Bale returning to the club he left to join Real in 2013.

"I can't comment on him coming to Spurs, Davies said. “I don't know if that is possible.

“With the national team he is a leader, he sets the example on the pitch and he is a joy to play with."

Earlier on Tuesday, Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, said Madrid fans should be “ashamed of themselves”, but dismissed talk of a summer move.

"Despite what the Spanish press are reporting, he's happy," Barnett told Sky Sports.

"He speaks reasonable Spanish and there is no problem between him and the rest of the Real players. The people writing these things know nothing about him.

"There has not been one single discussion about Gareth leaving Madrid. He isn't going anywhere this summer."
