Tottenham target further signings this week as Djed Spence and Clement Lenglet talks continue

Tottenham are expected to accelerate their summer transfer business this week, with head coach Antonio Conte determined to have more signings in place before the squad departs for South Korea on Saturday.

Conte this morning began pre-season with a partial squad, including new signings Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Fraser Forster.

Perisic was among five players who finished last season with injuries to report to Hotspur Way last week and the Croatian was this morning joined by those who did not feature in June's internationals.

Conte sets enormous store by pre-season and the Italian frequently complained last term about the difficulty of joining the club mid-campaign. He wants the rest of Spurs' summer incomings to be finalised before the weekend to ensure they will be fully up to speed before the early start to the 2022-23 campaign.

The club's internationals, including £60million signing Richarlison, are expected to return by Saturday morning ahead of an evening flight to Korea.

Spurs remain in talks with Barcelona over centre-half Clement Lenglet, with the Frenchman one of a number of options being considered by managing director Fabio Paratici. Villarreal's Pau Torres, Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni and RB Leipzig's Josko Gvardiol are among the club's other centre-half targets.

Djed Spence should this week join from Middlesbrough, with both clubs still thought to be negotiating a fee which is expected to be around £20m.

Spurs remain interested in Everton's Anthony Gordon, although there is little optimism that the Toffees will risk a supporter backlash by selling the homegrown winger, notwithstanding their perilous financial situation.

Interest in Jesse Lingard has been played down but Spurs could target a playmaker.

The north Londoners will also attempt to push ahead with outgoings, with talks continuing with Ajax over the transfer of Steven Bergwijn, despite reports in the Netherlands that a €30m (£25.8m) fee for the Dutch winger has been agreed. Bergwijn is thought to favour Ajax despite interest from Everton and new Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag.

Returning loanees Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso, who were both among the players due back at the training ground today, are also available to leave, along with Harry Winks, Sergio Reguilon and Bryan Gil.

Yesterday, Spurs confirmed the appointment of Gretar Steinsson as performance director, with the former Bolton Wanderers defender set to assist Paratici and bring a more specialised knowledge of the English transfer market. Former Manchester United player Simon Davies has joined the club's academy staff as head of methodology.
