Tottenham there for the taking, says Gary Cahill

Momentum: Gary Cahill challenges Micah Richards during last night's defeat at Manchester City

Gary Cahill says Chelsea go into Saturday’s clash with Tottenham primed to capitalise on the visitors’ faltering form — even though it was the Blues that lost last night.

Cahill is still confident Chelsea can bridge the five-point gap to Harry Redknapp’s side despite a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City.

Spurs increased their lead over Roberto di Matteo’s men in the table following a late equaliser against Stoke but dropped to fourth after Arsenal claimed their sixth straight victory by beating Everton.

Tottenham have picked up just one point out of the last 12 available and their next match is at Stamford Bridge, where they have not won since 1990.

While Spurs are showing signs of feeling the pressure, Chelsea have won four of their five matches since Andre Villas-Boas was sacked, leaving Cahill confident for their “huge game”.

The defender said: “Arsenal are having decent form and Spurs have been hit the last few games. It is hard to keep that momentum going throughout the season. Spurs have been absolutely fantastic but it is tough to keep it going every single game, week in, week out. You’ll always have a blip in the season and maybe theirs has come now.

“We’re at home, where we have some confidence now and we are looking to get the positive result we need. We have built some momentum of late and the camp is positive at the minute.”

Cahill, who gave Chelsea the lead before goals from Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri in the last 12 minutes, added: “We were unlucky against City but we can’t let it affect us because we have huge games coming up.”
