Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers says he is determined to prove Mauricio Pochettino right by developing into one of the Premier League's best centre backs.

The 19-year-old has operated on the fringes of Tottenham's first-team squad this season and made his senior debut in September's EFL Cup victory over Gillingham.

Carter-Vickers was rewarded with a new long-term contract eight days after his debut, which will tie the teenager to White Hart Lane until 2019.

The defender has gone on to make a further three appearances for Spurs this season, despite fierce competition for places alongside the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

Carter-Vickers is rated highly by Pochettino and the youngster is aiming to become the next Spurs Academy graduate to become a regular in N17.

"It's more immense pride," Carter Vickers told NBC's 'Tottenham Hotspur: To Dare Is To Do' film when asked whether Pochettino's comments suggesting he could become one of the best defenders in England's top tier led to pride or pressure.

"It's inspiring - you want to go and prove him right. You see from players older than you that there's definitely a pathway.

"So if you keep working hard then hopefully you'll be the next one."

Spurs boast a healthy number of Academy graduates in their-first team squad, having tapped into the Greater London talent pool in recent years, but there is only one who has had the biggest influence on Carter Vickers' development.

"Harry Kane - he's a great example. He's very professional on and off the pitch. Players that come from the Academy take you under their wing and show you the ropes."

Kane has established himself as a key figure at White Hart Lane since breaking into the team and is on course to win a second consecutive Premier League Golden Boot after scoring a hat-trick in the weekend's victory over Stoke.
