Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce insists Tottenham’s bid for Jack Grealish is “nowhere near” the club’s valuation for the player.
Standard Sport understands Tottenham have made an opening £20million offer for 21-year-old Grealish and remain confident of wrapping up a deal before the summer transfer window closes next Thursday.
Cash-strapped Villa however are holding out for bigger fee for their prized asset.
“We don’t want to lose our best players, but they’re aware of course that everyone has their price," Bruce said.
"The best thing the owners have been able to do is not let anybody go on the cheap.
“So if someone wants to buy our players, they are going to have to find a premium and make sure the owners are comfortable with it.
“We all know what football is, but at the moment Spurs haven’t got anywhere near what the owners want to consider. So there is not a discussion to be had at the moment, because they’ve got nowhere near the figure they demanded.”
Spurs have been tracking the midfielder for weeks and Grealish has indicated he would like to move to north London.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are the only club in the English top flight still to make a senior addition to their squad this summer.
While the manager has warned supporters to prepare for the possibility of no major additions, the club still hope to bring in a holding midfielder and a forward in addition to Grealish before the window closes.
Spurs remain interested in signing Anthony Martial from Manchester United but could also still face some high profile departures in the form of Toby Alderweireld, Mousa Dembele and Danny Rose.
