Tottenham don't have arrogance - just confidence, insists Toby Alderweireld

Tottenham's belief that they can beat any team they face is borne out of confidence rather than arrogance, according to Toby Alderweireld.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have only lost on three occasions in the Premier League this season and claimed another scalp on Sunday by virtue of their 2-1 win over Manchester City.

Spurs are now just two points adrift of leaders Leicester and are the division's form side, having secured five consecutive victories in recent weeks.

The mood within the north Londoners' camp is unsurprisingly positive but Alderweireld is adamant the squad will not let their success lead to cockiness.

"We feel if we work very hard, with everyone doing their job, we can beat any team," he told the Daily Mail.

"It is not arrogance - we don't have arrogance, we just have confidence, and that is the difference."

Spurs leapfrogged fierce rivals Arsenal and climbed to second place in the table after their victory at the Etihad, but the Belgian defender is reluctant to talk about the club's title chances.

The 26-year-old is wary of getting too carried away given that there are still a total of 36 points to be played for: "It is a very big win for us, but we don't talk about the title.

"Our goal is to reach the Champions League spots and I think we made a good step. There are still 12 games to play, so it is a long way.

"We have to work hard and not dream too much, because if we dream too much, we can fall down very quickly," he insisted.

The north Londoners face a trip to Fiorentina in the Europa League on Thursday before hosting Crystal Palace in the fifth round of the FA Cup this weekend.
