Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to visit Ryan Mason in hospital as midfielder recovers from skull fracture

Mauricio Pochettino was today planning to visit Ryan Mason in hospital after the former Tottenham player suffered a fractured skull.

Mason has been under observation at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington since he was injured during Hull’s defeat at Chelsea last Sunday.

Pochettino gave Mason his Premier League debut during his first season at Spurs and retains close ties with the midfielder. He intended to see him today, along with assistant Jesus Perez and academy chief John McDermott, after Spurs returned from a short training camp in Barcelona last night.

“We have kept in touch with his family and his girlfriend,” said Pochettino. “The good thing now is that he is recovering and making a lot of progress.

“It will be fantastic to see him. The squad sent a video from Barcelona to him. He is a special player for us and also for me personally, he grew up here and is a person we love.

“It is important for us to know how he is and share some times with him. It will be fantastic for him and for us and we will try to give some encouragement.

“One of his great strengths is his mentality and he has a strong personality, too. He suffered a lot in the past with injuries, it’s true. I am sure he can recover as soon as possible. His family will help him and we will try to do the same, to push him to recover as soon as possible.”

Pochettino continued today with his preparations for Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against League Two club Wycombe.

Toby Alderweireld (hamstring), Harry Kane (groin) and Danny Rose (knee) will miss the game but Pochettino is hopeful all three will be fit for the Premier League match at Sunderland three days later.
