Lautaro Martinez’s agent has said the forward is “on the right track” to sign a new contract with Inter Milan.

Tottenham agreed a deal to sign Martinez over the summer before Inter then refused to sell the Argentina international after losing Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea.

Arsenal were also interested in Martinez, who has scored 54 goals and provided 20 assists in 140 games for Inter, including five goals in six Serie A games this season.

His current contract expires in 2023 and Inter’s financial issues have raised suggestions that they could be forced to sell him next summer.

But Martinez’s agent Alejandro Camano says the 24-year-old is “on the right track” for a new deal.

“He is very happy in Italy and loves Italian football,” Camano told Radio Kiss Kiss in Italy.

“I want to immediately make clear that he is very happy in Italy and loves Italian football.

“We’ve been discussing the renewal with Inter for some time and I am really confident, because we are on the right track.

“Serie A is a more important and different league to what it was a few seasons ago.

“Lautaro is very happy to play with teammates like Edin Dzeko and Tucu Correa, who will cause all sorts of problems for opposition defences.”
