Two of London's biggest football clubs; Chelsea and Tottenham are both in the process of submitting plans for new stadiums which will allow them to compete with the world's top earning teams.

Tottenham have already begun work on their new 61,000-seater capacity stadium, which will be the biggest club stadium in London when it's completed in 2018, but face an anxious wait from Haringey Council about their plans to create wider pavements along the High Road to deal with crowd control.

Chelsea have also revealed plans to construct a 60,000 all-seater stadium, although work on the arena is not due to begin until the end of the season at the earliest.

The reconstruction work means that both clubs will need to relocate temporarily, with Wembley Stadium high on their wishlists.

The NFL's intention to create a London franchise, further complicates the issue, as American football have agreed deals to play matches at Wembley, Twickenham and at the revamped White Hart Lane, respectively.

Here's all you need to regarding the status of these various bids.

How big will the stadium be?

Spurs want to construct a 61,000 all-seater stadium, which will become the biggest club arena in London - surpassing the 60,000 capacity of Arsenal's Emirates Stadium - and will also host NFL matches.

What does the deal with Spurs and the NFL involve?

Tottenham have signed a 10-year partnership with American football bosses that will see at least two NFL matches be played at Spurs' new ground every year.

The stadium will have dedicated facilities for American football such as a retractable pitch, larger changing rooms and extra provisions for medical treatment and will also host other sports events and concerts.

Where else will NFL matches be played in London?

NFL currently play their international series, which consists of three games per year, at Wembley Stadium but recently announced they have struck a partnership with the Rugby Football Union to play a minimum of three matches at Twickenham over three years beginning in October 2016.

When will Spurs' stadium be ready?

Spurs aim to move into their new arena ahead of the 2018-19 season, but will have to play their matches the season before at a different venue.

This could see the club use Wembley Stadium or Stadium MK, home of Milton Keynes Dons, as their temporary base for the 2017-18 campaign.

What's the latest on Tottenham's stadium?

The club have submitted revised plans for the Northumberland Development Project, which houses Lilywhite House - Tottenham's new staff HQ, Tottenham University Technical College and the capital's largest Sainsbury's, to Haringey Council.

The scheme also includes the Tottenham experience, a hotel, an extreme sports building, a public square roughly the size of Trafalgar Square and new homes.

Spurs' application focuses on the need to improve crowd safety and crowd flow issues by removing three buildings, Edmonton Dispensary, The Red House, and the former White Hart Public House, from the High Road and implementing wider pavement.

Haringey Council will meet on Tuesday 8 December to look at the plans in a planning sub-committee meeting.

What happens next?

Should the plans be approved, Tottenham will begin work on the High Road in Spring 2016.

Chelsea's stadium

How big will the Blues' new stadium be and what will it look like?

Chelsea are also planning on re-developing their current west London home into a new 60,000-capacity stadium, with the arena set to have a 'gothic architecture of Westminster Abbey' feel to it.

Will the club have to move away from Stamford Bridge during the construction process?

Yes. The work will see Chelsea, like Tottenham, leave their home to play their matches elsewhere for three seasons beginning in 2017 and ending in 2020.

What's the latest on the new stadium?

Chelsea have not yet started any construction work as they first have to obtain planning permission and consent of Chelsea Pitch Owners.

Where are they likely to play when they leave Stamford Bridge temporarily?

The Blues are considering playing at Wembley Stadium, but will face competition from Spurs to do that - although Chelsea are thought to be favourites to secure any such deal.
