Toby Alderweireld set for Tottenham recall as Mauricio Pochettino plans to rotate for Brighton clash

Standard Sport16 April 2018

Tottenham could pick out-of-favour Toby Alderweireld at Brighton on Tuesday.

The Belgium defender has not played in the Premier League since October due to injury and his future at the club looks bleak, but he might get a run-out against the Seagulls.

“Toby is going to be involved in the squad and then tomorrow I will decide if he is going to play or not,” said Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Danny Rose (calf) and Harry Winks (ankle) will still be missing, but Fernando Llorente is in contention after missing the defeat to Manchester City due to personal reasons.

Brazilian winger Lucas Moura is in line for a start with Pochettino planning on rotating the side that lost 3-1 to Manchester City on Saturday.

“There are a lot of games still to play,” he said. “Of course now maybe it's a moment to rotate players that are tired.

“It's been a tough season and we need fresh legs to get the objective. Yes, [Lucas is] one of the players who is working hard, trying to take the opportunity, maybe tomorrow is a good opportunity for him to play a little bit more.”
