Toby Alderweireld underlined his happiness at Tottenham as his contract continues to wind down.

The defender was widely expected to leave the club this summer, with Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino open to cashing in on a defender who's current deal expires next summer.

A summer move never materalised and Alderweired has been given a "fresh start" by Pochettino, starting him in seven of Tottenham's eight Premier League games so far this season.

Tottenham are able to trigger a one-year extension on Alderweireld's deal which would in turn activate a £25 million release clause for the final two weeks of the summer transfer window.

When asked for an update on his contract situation, Alderweireld, who is on international duty with Belgium, told reporters: "Honestly, I am absolutely not thinking about it at the moment.

"I feel good, play a lot right now and, therefore, am happy. We shall see."

Alderweireld is expected to play a part as Belgium host Switzerland in the Uefa Nations League on Friday before Netherlands come to town for a friendly clash four days later.
