Toby Alderweireld has revealed that there has been no significant progress towards a new contract for him at Tottenham.
Standard Sport revealed in March that the Belgian international wants to double his £50,000 weekly wages, bringing him in line with top earners Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris, if he is to extend a deal that runs until 2019.
Spurs have the option of extending that contract by a further year though that would also activate a £25million release clause in the summer of 2019 for Alderweireld, who would then be 30.
Tottenham are eager to remove that release clause from any new deal but that does not appear to be an immediate prospect.
Asked by Sky Sports whether there was any update on negotiations Alderweireld said he could offer “no news that I know of so nothing… zero.”
Alderweireld will come face-to-face with former Tottenham team-mate Kyle Walker in Nashville on Saturday as Spurs take on Manchester City in a pre-season friendly.
Walker departed in a transfer that could eventually be worth £50m and though those funds will be reinvested into manager Mauricio Pochettino’s squad Alderweireld is disappointed to have said goodbye to a key component of the Premier League’s most formidable defence.

“Everybody is sad that he left,” the Belgian international said.
“He is one of the best full-backs in the world and unfortunately he goes to another [Premier League] team, but we have to focus ourselves to win the game.”
