Rio Ferdinand believes Timo Werner would be a hit at any Premier League club as Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United prepare to battle for his signature.

Werner, 24, has been in sensational form for RB Leipzig this season, scoring 21 goals and creating another seven in 24 Bundesliga appearances.

The Germany international's impressive Champions League form has also helped Leipzig qualify for the quarter-finals; Werner scored in the 1-0 win at Tottenham and set up a goal in the 3-0 home leg as Spurs were convincingly knocked out at the last-16 stage.

Liverpool appear early favourites to sign Werner, with the forward publicly declaring his pride at being linked with "the best team in the world."

However, Werner also suggests he will have a decision to make in terms of "two different variations of team" - one like Liverpool who are already a great side, or helping build something new at a club like United who need "big changes."

United's No.1 priority is Jadon Sancho, though Werner is also on their radar - and with Pedro and Olivier Giroud potentially leaving Stamford Bridge this summer, Chelsea also need a top-quality forward.

Meanwhile Jurgen Klopp is seeking another addition to his front line - though it will be difficult to displace his first-choice front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Former United defender Ferdinand is a big fan of Werner after following him in action against Spurs, and believes that wherever the forward ends up, that team will have secured a major victory in the transfer market.

Speaking during an Instaram Q&A session, Ferdinand told his followers: "What he’s been doing for his club, he’s been playing particularly well he is their goal threat and so, if I’m Liverpool, I 100 per cent take him because they haven’t got that back-up for the front-three at the moment.

"If one of them gets injured for a sustained amount of time, they haven’t got anyone – as well as Divock Origi has done, the Champions League exploits, I’d want more than that.

"If I was Werner I’d be thinking: 'I don’t think Salah is gonna be here that much longer, Mane might get bought out of here as well so I could get my chance that way' but also I’d be thinking there’s enough games in the season to get games and I can make an impact, try and push my way in.

"But there’s other clubs… Chelsea I think are interested in him. He would be massive for Chelsea, an unbelievable signing for Chelsea.

"I think United would go for him as well. I think he’d be great for Manchester United, definitely.

"Another one added to that great group of players that they’ve got up front."
