Thomas Partey: Arsenal midfielder left out of Ghana squad due to Covid-19 travel restrictions

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been left out of the Ghana squad for this month’s international fixtures.

Partey has been left out of the squad due to travel restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Under current UK Government guidelines, anyone returning from coronavirus ‘red list’ countries - including elite athletes - is required to quarantine for 10 days, without exception.

As a result, Arsenal and other Premier League clubs are refusing to release players for international games in those countries.

Partey falls into that bracket as Ghana are due to play South Africa - a ‘red list’ country - on March 25.

The midfielder could have, however, played against Sao Tome and Principe on March 28 as that match is taking place in Ghana.

Partey has, though, been left out of the Ghana squad for this month’s fixtures and he will stay with Arsenal.

The news is a boost for the Gunners as the 27-year-old has had fitness issues this season.
