Andy Cole has criticised Manchester United for the way the club handled the sacking of David Moyes, who was dismissed from his post at Old Trafford on Tuesday morning.

Rumours that United’s hierarchy had taken the decision to remove Moyes after the 2-0 loss to Everton were rife on social media and widely reported in the press up to 24 hours before the Scot was eventually relieved of his duties.

But Cole was frustrated that his former club had allowed the situation to get out of hand. Speaking to Sky Sports, Cole said: “I think everyone's very disappointed with the way it's happened - all in the press first. Tempers and feelings are running high but Manchester United are trying to do the best by Manchester United.”

Cole’s disappointment echoes comments made on Tuesday by former teammate Gary Neville that the circumstances surrounding Moyes’ sacking were, “not the way in which the club should portray itself.”

Cole added that he expected to see several members of the ‘Class of 92’ actively involved on the coaching staff at Old Trafford next season and backed former team-mate Ryan Giggs to have a positive influence on the performance of the first team.

He said: “I would not be surprised if Ryan (Giggs), Nicky (Butt) and Scholesy (Paul Scholes) were involved in some capacity next season. To have them back at Manchester United is absolutely phenomenal.

“I've been fortunate to play with Ryan and he knows what he wants to do. He's been at the football club long enough so he'll have his ideas on what he's looking to do and what sort of football he wants to play.”
