Southern Rail to run normal train service for Crystal Palace and Brighton fans despite RMT strike

Giuseppe Muro6 January 2018

Southern Rail plans to run a normal train service from London to next Monday’s FA Cup tie between Brighton and Crystal Palace, despite a planned staff walkout.

A 24-hour strike is expected to go ahead, following talks on Wednesday, but Southern says fans travelling to the Amex Stadium will not face major disruption.

The plan is to run the full timetable of Southern and Thameslink services between London and Brighton, as well as services to and from Falmer. Additional “football special” shuttle services between Brighton and Lewes will also operate, with around 2,000 Palace fans expected to attend.

Angie Doll, of Southern Railway, said: “This RMT strike action is a blow for fans of Brighton and Crystal Palace. The RMT leadership has chosen to call a strike for one of the biggest nights of the season for both clubs.”

The industrial action is part of a long-running dispute over the role of guards.

Southern advises supporters to check a journey planner on the day of the match.
