Shooting star Didier Drogba has Peter Osgood in his sights

Milestone: Didier Drogba will join Chelsea legends Peter Osgood and Roy Bentley on 150 goals if he scores at Wigan

Didier Drogba needs a goal at Wigan tomorrow to draw level with Chelsea legends Peter Osgood and Roy Bentley in the club's scoring charts.

But the striker, on 149 goals, never thought he would be good enough to match the feats of Osgood and Bentley, who are fourth in the list of Chelsea's all-time top scorers, especially after a difficult first season in England.

"I didn't consider reaching that number [Osgood and Bentley's 150 goals] when I arrived here, especially when my first season did not go really well," said the Ivory Coast international, who joined the club from Marseille for £24million in 2004.

"I struggled fitness-wise when I came but I made myself play because I had to show what I could do as a new player. So I played with injuries and that didn't help me in terms of the fans' opinion of me.

"Thank God the next year I was feeling much better, reduced the injuries and that's when I started to improve and score more goals. I think the fans then started to change their opinions and I was really proud of that.

"As with every player, the more I play, the easier it is find my habits on the pitch. The more I play the more chances I have to score."

Chelsea have the chance to reduce the gap on leaders Manchester City to four points, as Roberto Mancini's side take on Arsenal on Sunday.

The Blues have won three League games in a row, with youngsters Daniel Sturridge and Oriol Romeu helping turn the club's form around after a poor run.

Drogba said: "It's good to see younger players like Romeu and Sturridge coming in to take their chance.

"It's not about age, it's about having the quality and the courage to come in and show what you can do. Once you're with the first team, there's no age - it's just down to whether you can perform or not."

David Luiz is expected to partner John Terry in central defence again after completing a one-game ban.
