Sam Allardyce calls in the specialists to improve England’s mental ‘resilience’

Sam Allardyce has brought in a team of specialists to improve the mental ‘resilience’ of the England squad.

Lane 4, a company created by former Olympic swimming champion Adrian Moorhouse, have been drafted in to help the national team recover from their disastrous Euro 2016 campaign. They also specialise in ‘Leadership and Team Development’.

Allardyce has been lauded as was one of the pioneers of sports science within English football, having been introduced to the importance of player conditioning during his in the United States with the Tampa Bay Rowdies back in the early 1980’s.

Following their elimination from last summer’s European Championships in France – via a 2-1 defeat to Iceland – the England players were once again criticised for failing to cope with the pressures of a major tournament, and Allardyce is confident that Lane 4 can help the squad improve mentally.

Allardyce said: “These are a company with many facets in their locker and we’ll use them on a consistent basis to help the players build a bit more resilience; so they are able to cope with pressure better.”

It is believed that the company will act as an alternative to sports psychiatrist Dr Steve Peters who was appointed during Roy Hodgson’s tenure.
