Riyad Mahrez staying at Leicester City, says Foxes vice-chairman

Leicester City are "very, very confident" that PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez will stay at the club next season despite the forward's agent saying his client has a "50-50" chance to leave this summer.

Mahrez is likely to be in demand in the coming months after scoring 17 Premier League goals and creating 11 assists for Leicester this term, which helped the 25-year-old win the PFA Player of the Year crown recently and also fire the Foxes to their first-ever top-flight title.

Mahrez's agent, Kamel Bengougam, said on Thursday that the Algeria international would consider moving to a "big team" should clubs show an interest in his services this summer.

But Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri and the club's vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha have now stated their belief that Mahrez will stay at the King Power Stadium for next season.

"It's 99 per cent he will stay," Ranieri said. "I'm very, very confident. I suggest to all my players, 'Stay one year more. Don't go. If you go to another team, you might not get on the pitch'."

Srivaddhanaprabha added: "They are good boys. They are good lads. They understand. Even Mahrez, I talked to him and said, 'Are you concerned?'. He said, 'No, no, I want to stay'. This is what he wants. He wants to stay."
