‘My second house in England’ – The Evening Standard pays tribute to White Hart Lane, the ‘heartbeat’ of Tottenham

Sunday’s match against Manchester United will be Tottenham’s last at White Hart Lane.

For 118 years Spurs sides have graced the turf off of the Seven Sisters High Road. Their final game will be the club’s 2533rd at the Lane.

Spurs will spend a minimum of one season at Wembley Stadium before returning to north London and its new 61,559-seat arena.

From Bill Nicholson to Glenn Hoddle, from Jimmy Greaves to Harry Kane, Spurs fans have cheered on their heroes from the terraces since the ground opened way back on the 4th September 1899.

We spoke to club legends Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa, and former striker and coach Les Ferdinand to hear their thoughts on one of England’s most iconic football stadiums, while the Evening Standard’s Tom Collomosse and Richard Parry offer us a glimpse into the future, and a nod to the past, for this famous London football club.
