Manchester United's goalkeeper injury crisis has forced Louis van Gaal to recall Dean Henderson from his loan spell at Stockport County following David De Gea's knee injury.

De Gea was unable to take part in United's 2-1 Europa League defeat at FC Midtjylland on Thursday after injuring his knee in the warm-up, with Sergio Romero taking his place and impressing despite the loss.

United had no substitute keeper on the bench against the Danish champions with youngster Sam Johnstone also ruled out through injury, meaning Van Gaal has had to recall Henderson.

The 18-year-old has been on loan with Conference North side Stockport, and looks likely to be on the bench for United's FA Cup trip to Shrewsbury Town.

Former Barcelona number one Victor Valdes is currently on loan at Standard Liege having fallen out with Van Gaal, with Joel Castro Perreira is ineligible for Monday's tie having already featured in the competition for Rochdale this season.

Defeats in United's last two games has seen the pressure increase on Van Gaal, while former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has ruled himself out of taking over at Inter Milan amid reports he could land the Old Trafford job.
