Chelsea coach Antonio Conte has urged striker Alvaro Morata to learn his lesson after getting suspended for five yellow cards.

Morata picked up a fifth yellow card of the season against Bournemouth last night which means he will miss the match at Everton on Saturday.

Referee Lee Mason booked the Spain international after he kicked the ball away in the aftermath of scoring Chelsea’s winning goal.

And Conte said: “It’s a pity. We have to accept the decision and try, at the same time in the future, to pay great attention.”

There was some confusion at the time as it seemed like Mason had punished Morata for putting the ball up his shirt in honour of his wife, who will give birth to their first child in the new year.

Conte added: “I must be honest, in that moment we were enjoying the goal and I didn't see the situation. But I knew that he tried to celebrate a goal with the ball under the shirt. He's very happy because his wife is waiting (to give birth to) a kid.

“It's very important to see what happened. If the referee booked him only because he put a ball under his shirt, I think it's a pity.

“You can allow this because these are celebrations and you are showing your joy. You have to see because then, if something different happened after this, the referee judged it in a different way.”
