Bournemouth 1-0 Man Utd: Josh King haunts his former club as United's away run ends

Manchester United's three-game winning run came to an end with a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Dan James nearly put the visitors in front, reacting to a poor clearance from Jefferson Lerma and striking just wide of Aaron Ramsdale's post.

United then felt they should have had a penalty just after the half-hour mark. Anthony Martial burst past Lerma in the box and went down rather theatrically in the box.

The replay showed there was definite contact from the Colombian before he touched the ball but VAR decided against overturning the penalty, explaining there was no "clear and obvious error".

Right at the end of the half, Bournemouth found a way through.

Harry Wilson delivered a ball into the path of Josh King, who brilliantly lifted it over Aaron Wan-Bissaka's head and fired past David De Gea to score against his former club.

Boosted by the goal, Bournemouth came bursting out of the blocks and could have doubled their advantage. Ryan Fraser was found by Adam Smith at the far post but his effort was saved by De Gea, and the Spaniard did even better to deny King his second with a brave stop.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial struggled to link up like they did against Norwich as United couldn't find a way to break down the stubborn Bournemouth backline.

Harry Wilson, who had been a thorn in the side all afternoon, went close after his low effort was saved by De Gea.

Solskjaer turned to his bench in search of an equaliser, sending on Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams, and the 17-year-old came so close to making an instant impact, seeing his effort bounce back off the woodwork.

But in the end United's surge forward came too little, too late as the visitors succumbed to a first defeat in four in all competitions.
