Piers Morgan slams 'White Lives Matter' banner and insists those responsible are 'part of the problem'

Piers Morgan insists those responsible for flying a ‘White Lives Matter’ banner over Monday’s Premier League clash between Manchester City and Burnley are ‘part of the problem’ in the battle against racism.

The banner was flown above the Etihad Stadium shortly after kick off on Monday night, where players once again offered their support for the Black Lives Matter campaign by taking a knee before the contest.

Burnley swiftly denounced the stunt with Clarets captain Ben Mee ‘ashamed’ and embarrassed’ by the incident. Morgan described it as ‘so depressing’ on Monday night before addressing the issue on Good Morning Britain.

"Honestly, if that’s the way you think, you are ignorant, and you need to find out what it means, why Black Lives Matter has become a hashtag, what it’s about.

"If you honestly think your response should be “white lives matter”, you don’t get it. You just don’t get it. So you need to find out."

He added: "‘Educate yourself, you’re part of the problem. You are exactly what they’re talking about, the protesters. When they protest about people just not being aware, this is what they mean. If your gut reaction is “white lives matter” That’s the problem, right there.

"So be better, educate yourselves. It’s not hard, just find out.

"What about Dominic Raab with his taking the knee, thinking it’s from Game of Thrones? Be better educated, then we may get somewhere."

Former Labour spin doctor Alastair Campbell, a Burnley fan, also condemned the incident, describing the perpetrator as 'one loser with more money than sense'.
