Pedro Obiang says he and his West Ham teammates must do more if they want to turn fortunes around in east London.

The Hammers looked well off the pace once again as they began their time under new manager David Moyes with a 2-0 defeat at Watford on Sunday.

Moyes could point to the heroics of Watford’s Heurelho Gomes, who denied Marko Arnautovic just before half-time, or the highest running stats of the season for the club after fitness and effort highlighted as the key areas to improve, but still he’ll know it was far from good enough.

While Obiang knows Sunday was a bad result, the midfielder says they must put what’s done behind them and focus on hard work in training.

“It is a bad result, everybody knows that,” the 25-year-old told the club’s website.

“I don’t think we need to talk too much about the game because everybody could see what happened. We have to continue to work hard and that’s it.

“Of course, we had some chances but in the situation where we are, we have to make the chances and keep going.

“We can continue to think about what we are doing and what we did before. We have to keep going and think about it.”

The narrative of Moyes’ early weeks in charge have been of intensive work, both from the management and the players, and while that will increase their chances of turning things around, Obiang says there is still more to do.

“We need time to understand better what he wants and we have to work a little bit more to be fit to do the things he wants.

“I’m agreeing with him because he is angry we lost the game. He thinks we can do something better and we have to do more.

“We have to work hard for the next game and forget about the last one because what happened, happened.”

Moyes takes charge of his first game at London Stadium on Friday night with Leicester the visitors, and the Scot is in need of a result with Everton, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal following the Foxes.
