Kyle Walker heaped praise on the “incredible” Cole Palmer as Manchester City won the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night.

After scoring in the Community Shield ten days ago, the England U21 international again stepped up to draw the treble winners level in Athens.

Youssef En Nesyri had given the LaLiga side the lead with a header in the first-half and Sevilla had largely held City at bay until Palmer stepped up with a header just after the hour mark. City would go on to win 5-4 on penalties to win the competition for the first time in their history.

West Ham are interested in the 21-year-old as a makeweight in City’s pursuit of Lucas Paqueta but, increasingly, it looks as if Palmer will be set for a far more prominent role this season.

Riyad Mahrez left the club earlier this summer and Pep Guardiola has spoken of Palmer’s potential for more game time.

“This guy is incredible," said Walker.

"He’s got good players to learn off and we’re under the best manager in the world.

"He needs to keep going and keep his feet on the floor which he does really well and keep scoring.

"If he keeps improving and listening to me behind him, he’ll be fine."
