Olivier Giroud’s delight as he silences critics

Olivier Giroud believes France proved a point as his late equaliser earned his side a 1-1 draw in Spain.

The Arsenal striker came off the bench to head in as France became the first side to take a point off Spain in a qualifier since 2007.

Giroud said: “We silenced certain critics. It was a real pleasure to be able to respond on the pitch.”

Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris saved a penalty from Spain’s Cesc Fabregas.
