An Irish newspaper has mistaken a picture of grime star Stomzy dressed in Manchester United gear for Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian striker is set to complete a £75million move from Everton to United after Jose Mourinho swooped to sign the star from under the nose of former club Chelsea.

Despite completing his medical, the footballer has not been unveiled as a Manchester United player and photos of him posing in club gear are yet to be released.

But that didn't stop The Herald running the image of Stormzy in a blue club tracksuit with the caption: "New Manchester United signing Romelu Lukaku."

The image of the grime star originates from May last year, when alongside David Beckham he helped launch United's new away kit.

The Herald acknowledged the gaffe on their website on Monday.

"Hands up, we got it badly wrong," wrote editor Alan Steenson.

"Earlier, we made an error with a picture of Romelu Lukaku that wasn't him. It was Stormzy."

"To be honest, we are totally embarrassed and want to say sorry to all involved and our readers for the error. We will keep our eye on the ball in future."

But eager fans will not have to wait long to see Lukaku don the red strip.

The 24-year-old took to Instagram on Monday morning to thank Everton fans for their support, and also followed Manchester United on Twitter as the moved edged closer.

"I want to say a big thank you to all the people involved at Everton." he posted.

"I want to thank the fans for their support throughout the four years we've spent together.

"You guys helped me through all my games and I can proudly say it was an honour to play in front of you. To the staff at the stadium and the training ground, thank you for making me feel at home from the first day I walked in.

"To my team-mates it was great to play with you guys. To the technical staff, thank you for helping me to become a better player. Working with you guys has been a pleasure and I'll take your advice throughout the rest of my career. Thank you Everton Football Club."
