Nemanja Matic has admitted that it will be difficult for Chelsea to recover from their 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend.

Glenn Murray's late header helped thew newly-promoted side become the fourth side to win at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this season as the Cherries climbed out of the relegation zone.

While Eddie Howe celebrated what he described as the best victory in his club's history the game consigned Jose Mourinho's side to their eighth defeat in 15 games this term.

The Portuguese tactician spoke positively about his side's progress after last week's draw at Tottenham but has now conceded that the top-six has become a realistic target for his under-performing team.

A huge 14 points stand between the Blues and the Champions League places and Matic has claimed that a recovery could be beyond the champions.

"We are in a difficult situation, so it's going to be hard to come back from this.

"But we have to try to resolve this problem, we have to try to recover," insisted the Serbian.

The atmosphere at Chelsea is downbeat but the team need to pick themselves up for a crucial Champions League group game against Porto on Wednesday night.
