Mile Jedinak has affirmed that his place remains at Crystal Palace despite having the captain’s armband taken from him.

Alan Pardew confirmed to the Australian midfielder last week that he would have to cede the captaincy to Scott Dann, despite having led Palace to the Premier League and an FA Cup Final over four seasons as the club’s leader.

Pardew’s decision has led to speculation that Jedinak could be set to depart, with Aston Villa being among the clubs linked with the 32-year-old. However he has no intention of departing Selhurst Park.

“My commitment is to Palace,” Jedinak told Fox Sports.

“I’m a Palace player. I’ve not been told otherwise by anybody and until then you remain committed.

“At this time of the season there’s a lot of speculation but I just remain true to myself and keep my head down and not remain muddled with anything.”

Jedinak struggled to carve out a regular starting spot in the early months of last season but played a key role in Palace’s battle against relegation in the final games of the campaign.

However Pardew has chosen to hand the armband to Dann, a decision that Jedinak has reluctantly accepted.

“I was surprised, obviously. When you do a job with full commitment, it’s never nice,” Jedinak said.

“You give your all to the task and hopefully that’s enough but sometimes things get taken out of your hands and one way or another you have to accept it and get on with it and focus on the task at hand.”
