Michy Batshuayi to Tottenham: Spurs face competition from Juventus while West Ham maintain interest in Belgian striker

Tottenham face competition from Juventus to sign Marseille forward Michy Batshuayi this summer.

The Belgian is one of Spurs’ principal targets to improve their forward line, with reports in France even suggesting that former Marseille boss Marcelo Bielsa – the mentor of Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino – has been sending dossiers to his former pupil about Batshuayi.

West Ham and Leicester are also interested in Batshuayi yet Spurs’ main challenge for the player appears likely to come from Italy.

Standard Sport understands Juventus are preparing a list of targets if, as expected, Alvaro Morata returns to Real Madrid in the summer, and Batshuayi, 22, figures prominently on it.

Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri wants a replacement for Morata, as well as an attacking midfielder, to keep his team competitive in Europe next season.

Batshuayi has shone in a very poor season for Marseille, scoring 22 goals in all competitions. Even though he signed a contract extension last January, Batshuayi is still expected to leave this summer – especially as he is no longer an automatic choice for Marseille chief Michel.

Batshuayi’s omission is unpopular with many people close to the club, with former defender Basile Boli saying: “We have a player who has scored many goals since the start of the season and is not starting.

"There are a lot of things that aren’t working.”
