Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi has thanked ‘crazy’ Diego Costa for his support during their time together after the champions announced they had reached a deal with Atletico Madrid for the sale of the Spanish international in January.

The 28-year-old, who went AWOL over the summer in Brazil, has refused to return to Chelsea’s Cobham training ground after a text from manager Antonio Conte made it clear his time at the club was over.

Costa, who will return to his former club once the deal, subject to personal terms and a medical, is finalised, has had a number of fiery moments in a Chelsea shirt, however, his fellow forward Batshuayi has wished him well for the future.

In a message on Twitter, accompanied with a picture of the two players, the Belgian wrote: “A great striker & always a support when I arrived at Chelsea.

"Thanks for everything Crazy @diegocosta & good luck for the future.”

Costa, who joined the Blues from Atletico in 2014 for around £32m, will still net Chelsea a profit with the initial deal worth £48.4m with another £8.8m in add-ons and will watch on when the two sides face eachother in the Champions League next week.
