Michail Antonio will miss West Ham's Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham after testing positive for Covid-19.

Hammers manager David Moyes confirmed on Tuesday that two members of staff had tested positive for coronavirus and that players were among those diagnosed.

Moyes confirmed ahead of the quarter-final at Tottenham that Antonio, West Ham's only senior striker, had tested positive for the virus, with Jarrod Bowen starting through the middle in his place. West Ham are without a back-up striker having sold Sebastien Haller to Ajax in January.

The Hammers have so far managed to avoid a serious outbreak within the squad and offered players the chance to get their booster jab at the training ground after their weekend fixture against Norwich City was postponed.

Moyes said on Sky Sports: “Antonio tested positive last week, probably about a week ago now so we’re closer to getting him back but obviously not available tonight.

“With testing every day there’s uncertainty like every other team but I have to say, at the moment we’ve been pretty good with Covid.”

The Premier League this week confirmed that they would press ahead with the festive fixture list despite the chaos the spread of the Omicron variant has caused within football.

Six Premier League fixtures were called off over the weekend while a number of Football League Boxing Day games have already been called off.
