Mesut Ozil is in line to feature for Arsenal against Leicester in tomorrow’s Premier League after returning to training following an ankle injury.

Arsene Wenger had rated the midfielder as a doubt after he missed Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Chelsea but Ozil has recovered in time to be in contention for the Emirates Stadium clash.

Aaron Ramsey, another rated doubtful by Wenger after suffering a calf injury, also joined the squad for full training on Thursday and is available to feature in some capacity during the Premier League opener.

Per Mertesacker still sported a cut over the eye after his collision with Gary Cahill in Sunday’s penalty shootout win but it is not expected to rule him out.

Wenger had admitted in Wednesday’s pre-match press conference that he had “plenty of uncertainties” heading into the start of the new season, with the manager mulling over whether to start with Shkodran Mustafi in central defence. The German international did not feature in pre-season after his exertions in the Confederations Cup.

Alexis Sanchez, Jack Wilshere, long-term absentee Santi Cazorla and Gabriel are unavailable whilst Francis Coquelin is understood to be no more than hopeful of featuring.

Leicester are suffering their own shortfall in numbers ahead of the opener, with central midfielders Danny Drinkwater and Vicente Iborra unavailable. Robert Huth, who had ankle surgery in June, is also out.
