Mauricio Pochettino believes Tottenham 'dropped two points' after their 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park this afternoon.

Spurs began the game the brighter of the two sides but were unable to make their dominance count during the early stages.

Instead, the Toffees took the lead when former Spurs midfielder Aaron Lennon rifled a fierce strike into the top corner.

Both Harry Kane and Ben Davies were then denied by the woodwork as the north Londoners attempted to force their way back into the encounter.

The breakthrough was finally made on the stroke of half time when Alli volleyed home acrobatically after a superb cross field ball from Toby Alderwerield.

Despite being impressed with Tottenham's overall performance, Pochettino was ultimately frustrated his team were unable to claim all three points after such a good first-half showing.

"I am pleased for the effort but at the same time feeling is we dropped two points," he told Sky Sports.

“Our mentality is strong, we are ambitious. Goodison is a very tough place to come, Everton are a tough team we need to feel proud, we always try and win the game sometimes in football it is not possible.”

Alderweireld echoed his manager's sentiments and also bemoaned Tottenham's failure to beat Roberto Martinez's men.

"I think we lost two points today. The first-half was the best of the season," claimed the Belgian centre back.

"We were unlucky, we could have scored twice and were then unlucky to go behind, but showed a lot of character to come back."

Spurs stay fourth courtesy of today's draw and are three points ahead of fifth-placed Manchester United.
