Mark Noble's season may be over

Mark Noble could miss the rest of the season while he recovers from surgery on his arm.

The West Ham midfielder was due to undergo the operation today and may need to have part of a rib removed in an attempt to cure the nerve problem. Chelsea’s Gary Cahill underwent a similar procedure following the discovery of a blood clot in his arm.

“It’s a real shame for Mark,” said manager Sam Allardyce. “He’s had the problem for a few weeks and it just wasn’t improving. Hopefully, he won’t be out for too long.”

However, George McCartney, who has missed three months with a knee ligament injury, could return to the first team for the match at home to West Brom on Saturday week.

The left-back featured in a 3-1 win friendly win over Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday.
