Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has said Sergio Romero is yet to prove his worth for Manchester United this season.

The Argentina international signed a three-year deal at Old Trafford in July and has been starting for the Red Devils in place of David De Gea, who remains unsettled amid speculation surrounding his immediate future.

Romero has kept three clean sheets in three Premier League starts and a Michael Carrick own goal in the first leg of United's Champions League qualifier against Club Brugge remains the only blot on his copy book.

But Van Gaal believes Romero is yet to face a genuine test and will continue monitor the goalkeeper's performances

"I don't think so," Van Gaal told reporters when asked if his goalkeeper has proved himself so far this season.

"Until now we don't allow a lot of shots or moments in our 16-metre area. He could not show what he can show, I think, but that is only a compliment for the team."
