Manchester United handed Jadon Sancho boost as Dortmund accept exit inevitable... but £116m price tag remains

Borussia Dortmund accept it is only a matter of time before Manchester United target Jadon Sancho leaves the club.

The German giants are aware that the England international wants a return to the Premier League this summer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperate to take him to Old Trafford.

But they remain determined to hold out for their full valuation of £116million – even after the effects of coronavirus on football’s finances.

Dortmund are running out of patience with off-the-field issues involving Sancho, but still believe they can demand top money for the winger, who is Solskjaer’s priority target when the transfer window opens.

Sancho was fined by the German football league last week for flouting the country’s Covid-19 safety guidelines by having a haircut without the use of personal protective equipment.

Team-mate Emre Can reacted by telling the former Manchester City academy graduate to “grow up.”

It is the latest incident involving the 20-year-old, with German newspaper Sport Bild claiming he has previously run into trouble by missing training and turning up late to a meeting because he took a “long nap” – while his regular trips back to England are said not to be appreciated by everyone.

Solskjaer has spoken at length of the need to recruit the right characters as part of his United revolution and still has his sights firmly on Sancho.

The Norwegian makes a point of asking United players about potential targets they have relationships with, and Marcus Rashford is close friend of his England team-mate.

The striker even took the step of publicly declaring his desire to team up with Sancho at Old Trafford.

Discussing a potential move to United for the forward in April, Rashford said: “It would be good. Sancho is a great player.

“He’s like the new generation player. It’s definitely exciting to watch the player he’s becoming — hopefully we can all play together. That would be good.

“He plays off the cuff. He’s imaginative. I think in this generation, they’re the things you need to be world class.”
