Manchester United in talks to extend Alexis Sanchez loan at Inter Milan - but deal is 'not simple'

Manchester United are in talks with Inter Milan over an extension to Alexis Sanchez’s loan deal.

United are prepared to let the Chile international remain in Italy, with the forward not part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.

But Inter chief executive Beppe Marotta has revealed negotiations for Sanchez have been difficult, along with talks over another loanee Victor Moses from Chelsea.

“This is a great regulatory anomaly that needs to be resolved because we are still dealing with Chelsea and Manchester United today to try to extend their loans,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“It is not a simple thing. We are also dealing with Bayern Munich over Ivan Perisic.”

Sanchez has endured an injury-hampered time at Inter.

United are continuing to pay a significant portion of his salary, which is worth around £450,000-a-week.

They are likely to have to do the same again next season, with their chances of finding a permanent buyer for the forward hit by the financial impact of coronavirus.

Chris Smalling is on loan at Roma, who want to keep him beyond the season - but it remains to be seen if they will be prepared to make it a permanent deal in the current climate.

Solskjaer addressed the futures of Sanchez and Smalling last week, saying: “I am very, very happy with what is happening at the moment in and around the squad and Chris certainly has had a very good season at Roma.

“Alexis has had some injury problems again. They are thinking about their future and we are thinking about ours.

“We will make a decision after the end of this season and I think it is important that they focus on finishing the season where they are and that we can continue what we do.”
