Arsene Wenger has not ruled out the prospect of more January business after sealing a deal for Egypt international Mohamed Elneny.

Elneny joined from Basel for a fee in the region of £7million and, while he will deputise for the injured Francis Coquelin for now, it is thought Wenger sees the midfielder as a first-team player in the long-term.

But while Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky have returned in recent weeks, Santi Cazorla and Jack WIlshere remain sidelined with Coquelin and Arsenal could continue their January spree.

But their hopes of landing long-term target Adrien Rabiot have been hit by interest from a Premier League rival. Indeed, Spanish reports are suggesting Louis van Gaal has singled out Rabiot as a target and is willing blow Arsenal out of the water with a bid north of £21million.
