'Manchester United lack experience in completing late deals' - Real Madrid chief Perez hits back over botched De Gea deal

The spat over David De Gea's failed deadline day move to Real Madrid from Manchester United continues to rumble on.

Los Blancos president Florentino Perez has accused United of 'lacking experience' in completing late deals after similarly botched moves for Ander Herrera and Fabio Coentrao in 2013.

De Gea looked set for Madrid, with Keylor Navas heading in the opposite direction, before it emerged on Monday evening that the Spanish FA did not receive documentation to conclude the transfer ahead of deadline.

Both clubs have since released statements accusing the other for failing to get the deal over the line. United claim Real returned De Gea's documentation with 'major changes' just 20 minutes before the deadline but they still acted fast to submit everything ahead of Monday's 11pm cut-off time.

But Perez has since hit back, accusing the English club of dragging their feet; the Real Madrid chief has now claimed that Ed Woodward and his team had all the documentation they needed hours before the deadline.

“At 1330 Manchester United had all the papers but they took eight hours to return them,” Perez told radio station Cadena SER.

“It’s very unfortunate and I don’t want to blame anyone but we don’t understand why it took them so long to send them, or why they only decided to negotiate when there was 12 hours to go.

"I don’t think they had bad intentions, I just think they lack experience as the same thing happened with Coentrao and with Herrera. I had a feeling it wouldn’t happen on time because I couldn’t forget what happened the other year [with Coentrao], but we couldn’t leave De Gea in limbo.”
