Man United injury update: Antony, Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay latest news and return dates

Marc Mayo8 February 2023

Manchester United have been handed a number of injury blows in recent days.

Christian Eriksen is the big long-term absentee for the Red Devils, who have also lost Casemiro to a three-game ban for his red card against Crystal Palace.

There was good news, however, with Diogo Dalot and Jadon Sancho fit to make the bench on the weekend.

Here is your latest update of Man United injuries and return dates...

Antony

The Brazilian was forced off towards the end of the win over Crystal Palace and he will miss the Leeds game tonight.

No return date has been put on the leg knock with Erik ten Hag keeping his cards close to his chest on the winger’s condition.

He said: “I don’t think it is a long time but we have to see how it develops in the coming days. It is in his leg, but I can’t specify. You will understand that.”

Anthony Martial

The French striker, who will miss Wednesday’s game with Leeds, suffered his fifth injury setback of the season when being ruled out of the Palace game due to a reported hamstring injury.

Erik ten Hag revealed very little about the nature of the issue and no timeframe has been reported for Martial’s latest return in a stop-start campaign for the 27-year-old.

“He had a set back from the game when he returned [against Nottingham Forest],” said the United manager. “He dropped a little bit back. We have to wait, we have to be patient.”

Christian Eriksen

An ankle injury sustained in the FA Cup win over Reading will keep Eriksen out for around three months.

United have confirmed an inital return date of late April or early May for the Dane, pointing towards a possible return against Tottenham on April 25 for the final six Premier League games of the season.

Ten Hag added last week: “Of course, he is disappointed about it, we are disappointed about it. It happens in top football, you have to deal with it.”

Scott McTominay

Ten Hag is yet to specify the exact nature of McTominay’s injury yet his return is not thought to be imminent and the Scottish international is another who miss the game with Leeds.

Last week, a timeframe of around a fortnight and potentially longer was intimated by the manager.

The midfielder last featured in a United squad for the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Forest on January 25.

Donny van de Beek

A knee injury picked up in last month’s game against Bournemouth will keep Van de Beek out for the rest of the season.

After surgery, the Dutch midfielder is focusing on his long-term recovery with Ten Hag satisfied that he will be back in the summer.

He stated: “Of course, the bad news is he is out for the rest of the season, but the good news is, in the long term, his knee will be okay and he will be ready again to play at the highest levels and will be ready for the start of pre-season.”
