Luis Suarez: The life and crimes of football's serial offender

Nik Simon22 April 2013

Luis Suarez first gave a glimpse of his dark side aged 15, when he was sent off for head-butting a referee and breaking the official’s nose. Since then, the striker has scored goals — and courted controversy — where ever he plays . . .

February 2007: Sent off for dissent on his Uruguay debut against Colombia.

November 2007: Internal suspension at Ajax for half-time bust-up with team-mate Albert Luque.

July 2010: Deliberately handled a header from Ghana’s Dominic Adiyiah to prevent a goal at World Cup finals in South Africa to help Uruguay into the semi-finals.

November 2010: Handed a seven-match ban for biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal.

October 2011: Sees red in Merseyside derby for tackle on Everton’s Jack Rodwell.

October 2011: Found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra (above) and handed eight-game ban.

December 2011: Given a one-match ban for offensive gesture towards Fulham fans.

February 2012: Infamously refuses to shake hands with Evra at Old Trafford.

October 2012: Dives in front of David Moyes to celebrate a goal after the Everton manager had accused him of diving.

March 2013: Appears to punch Chile defender Gonzalo Jara on the chin during a World Cup qualifier.

Yesterday: Bites the arm of Branislav Ivanovic during the 2-2 draw at Anfield but the incident is not spotted by referee Kevin Friend.
