Mohamed Salah has revealed how his frustrating spell at Chelsea convinced him that Liverpool would be the perfect place for him to prove his Premier League doubters wrong.

Signed by the Blues from Basel in January 2014, Salah made just 19 appearances in total before two loan stints in Italy led to a permanent move to AS Roma.

He was brought back to England just a season later, Liverpool sealing a £37million transfer that, 145 games, 92 goals, and four trophies later, looks like an absolute bargain.

And Salah has now explained that the seeds of this remarkable period of personal and collective success were sown during his difficult time at Stamford Bridge.

“It’s something special for sure. I’m really delighted to win the League with Liverpool after 30 years,” he told beIN SPORTS.

“After I left Chelsea, I was determined to go back and change everything. I went back, won the UEFA Champions League, the League and was the top goal scorer for two seasons, I think I did well.

“[Anfield] is really special. I remember I even felt that when I was playing with Chelsea, and that is what makes me feel wanting to play here and come to play with Liverpool.

“Everything is special about it, from the beginning, hearing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ boosts your enthusiasm and makes you feel you want to give more and more.”

With Salah leading the way up front, Liverpool have lifted the Champions League, Premier League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

But the 28-year-old still wants more, and believes he and his teammates are well positioned to deliver on that aim.

He added: “We should make a great use of this generation, as we have good chemistry between us and you can find harmony and everyone knows what to do and where to find our teammates.

“Staying at our peak is not something easy, but we’ll play hard to keep winning trophies. It’s impossible for me to say that I have enough trophies and I reached my maximum.

“I will continue to do my best to make next year better than the one before.”

Salah went on to reveal that his main concern prior to joining the Reds was Sadio Mane and his preference for playing on the right-hand side until that point.

He continued: “When I was about to sign for Liverpool, I was worried because he was playing in my position and that made me worry about playing more often, but Klopp personally explained to me that Mane will play on the other side.

“It wasn’t a fight; everyone wants to help Liverpool to win and support other team mates.

“Sometimes we get angry in the match but that finished immediately and the game after we assisted each other and helped Liverpool with our goals and assists.”
