Liverpool's preparations for the return of the Premier League received a boost on Thursday as Jurgen Klopp's side beat Blackburn Rovers 6-0 at Anfield.

Rovers were guests of the Premier League leaders in a behind-closed-doors friendly, and Liverpool easily brushed aside the Championship club with a strong win.

Naby Keita, Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino and Joel Matip were all on the scoresheet, with academy hopefuls Ki-Jana Hoever and Leighton Clarkson also scoring.

Klopp's men return to Premier League action on Sunday evening in the Merseyside derby, with Everton and Liverpool getting the green light to play at Goodison Park.

A local Safety Advisory Group comprising representatives from both clubs, Liverpool City Council, Merseyside Police and fan unions have given their support to the fixture going ahead in the city.

Providing Manchester City do no drop points at home to Arsenal next Wednesday, Liverpool need just two wins to confirm themselves as champions for the first time since 1990.
