Jurgen Klopp was frustrated by a key offside decision going against Liverpool as Leicester City consigned the champions to their third straight Premier League defeat.

Alisson suffered another nightmare as Liverpool’s title defence was left hanging by a thread after a late collapse at Leicester.

Mohamed Salah had given Liverpool the lead in the second half, but James Maddison levelled from a free-kick which was subject to two VAR calls: first, the foul was awarded outside the box instead of a penalty; then the goal stood after a lengthy VAR check for offside.

Alisson then gifted Jamie Vardy a goal to put Leicester 2-1 ahead, coming for and missing Youri Tielemans’ long pass to allow Vardy to run the ball in - and Harvey Barnes struck late to compound the visitors’ misery.

Klopp’s side are now 10 points behind leaders Manchester City having played two games more, and the Liverpool boss rued both the performance and the decision for Leicester first goal.

"It was a clear game that we should win,” Klopp told BBC’s Match of the Day. “We played good football, dominated possession, took the game out of Leicester but apart from that we were really top in the game.

“We scored a goal, could have and should have scored more, whatever. Everything fine and then penalty, free-kick, offside, not offside, goal. That had a proper impact.

“That is something that has to change. The first goal for me is offside. The difference is we think it's an objective thing but it's not.

"Three players offside for Leicester but it was decided to take another moment in the game. That is how it is.

“The second goal is a misunderstanding obviously. It is a situation where we should shout and I didn't hear anyone shout. It is not that cool. The third goal I really don't like. We are so open. I cannot accept. That was it. The performance for 75 minutes or so was outstanding then we lost 3-1. That shows what a tricky situation we are in."
